"So...is that him?" L said as he walked into the room, blinking tired and darkened eyes as he walked into the room, an elder Watari walking just behind him.
"Yes..." the gentleman said, "That is the boy that I told you about over the phone." L raised his thumb to his lips and studied the boy intently, taking in his features, his ebon eyes missing nothing. From the scrapes and torn clothes that hung from the small child, to his shaggy black hair, and even his oddly colored crimson eyes that were dull and detached from the world. "What is his name?" he asked Watari, who simply shrugged his shoulders. "He won't tell us. Actually he hasn't said a thing the entire time, though he fought us at first." the old man shifted the glasses on his face, waiting to see what he brightest student would say. "Well then I shall have to talk to him." the youth said, and walked over to the boy, slightly slouching over. He knelt by the small boy, his knees up to his chest, and one arm wrapped around his leg as he looked at the boy. Dirty, bruised, disheveled, all described his features. What had happened to him. "Hello." he said. No answer. "Hmm...my name is L..do you have a name?" he asked, a smile on his face. Maybe it was the way he had introduced himself, or his aura that the child responded to. Or perhaps it was just that L had shrunk down to the boy's height. At any rate, dull crimson eyes turned slowly to look at him, and the boy's lips quavered as he replied, in a voice barely above a whisper. "Yes..." L smiled, glad that the boy was willing to speak with him. Watari smiled, knowing that if anyone could get through to a boy who had been abused, it was L. After all, they had come from the same situation. "Would you tell me you name?" It was a minute before the child answered, "Beyond Birthday." ~~~ My entry for the  clube's First Meeting contest. ^^ It was soooo late, and it's crappy I know D:I give permission for and  to post this ^^ |
